1954 Barndoor Panelvan Not another Dove Blue Bus but something different! Presented in the Cool Flo Arena at Volksworld Show UK, awarded at Spa, Chimay, Ninove, Chateau d`Oex, SBOM, etc. and published on Airmighty n° 25, Super VW n° 324, Kustom World n° 66. Made in Wolfsburg, shipped September 14, 1954 to Riviera Motors San Francisco California, this bus has spent most of its life in the USA. Jersey looker with flames and cut wheel arches during the 80s. Around 2005 transformed in the famous raw-metal Silver Bullet by KCW. In 2007 it reached the UK and finally in 2012 I bought it and restored it during 3 years among Belgium, Sweden and Italy, then took this beauty to France and used it occasionally, always parking in a dry garage. BODY: treated with Klassicfab and Autocraft metal where necessary (cab floor, lower nose, right rear wheel arch and front dogleg, engine lid) and NOS cargo doors. Creative safari windows added. Custom taupe brown color that perfectly matches the style of the bus and can be considered period correct, since most of the panelvans where delivered in primer. Chassis, cargo area and wheel arches painted in matt `primer grey` color, copying the original shade from an untouched part of the chassis. So the body has to be considered as strictly stock. The gas tank has been relocated to accept the dual carb setup, but can be easily put in stock position. Spare wheel tray is present and nicely painted in correct satin black, although not installed. All seals from Wolfsburg West. The correct Barndoor sliding windows and latches will come with the vehicle. INTERIOR: is also stock except for custom made door and kick panels in grey vinyl and some added Smiths instruments (tacho, tank gauge and oil temp) matching with the original speedo. Cargo area is empty like stock (you can do your own camping interior if needed). Front bench in correct black vinyl with raw seams as the original. Deluxe horn button and speedo pod chrome ring to put that bling bling in this sober interior. Electrics are 12V with brand new VWLooms wiring and 12v flashing semaphores. Discrete chrome turn signal bulbs in the headlights. Rear lights with dual filament bulbs. MECHANICS: lowered via IRS at the rear with 8x31 (long ratio) `AT` code transmission and Transporterhaus adjustable spring plates. Narrowed adjustable front beam and dropped spindles. 4 Spax adjustable gas shocks. Tires 175/55 + 185/65 R15 on chrome and detailed 5.5x15" SSP Fuchs wheels + OG Porsche hubcaps polished and detailed by hand. 4 Porsche pattern disc brakes and Wilwood calipers with double circuit system. Later steering box. ENGINE: you can choose among 1) Brand new (!) 1300cc OKRASA replica engine (add 9000€ to the ad price) with repro mesh filters or original VW Knecht `Zyklon` filters (add 1000€ for these). Already on the bus, ready to go. No heating. 2) 2110cc torque engine with 5000 kms, freshly updated with stainless pushrod tubes and new Total Seal piston rings, never run after (add 6000€). No heating. 3) 1600cc single port engine from an NOS industrial engine, run only a few hours (add 3000€). No heating. 4) No engine (free of course, preferred option for me and you can install your own engine and heating). The bus is in France with `collection` papers. Can help with transport or shipping. English, French, Italian, Spanish spoken, so let`s talk about it! I`d like to sell but I`m not forced to, I just want to change after 10 years, so I may consider TRADES / partial trades for a mostly original paint Split Bus, 11 13 15 windows Deluxe, 21 23 window Samba, Mango Green or Palm Green Sand Green bus, Porsche 356 / 912 / 911, US car or truck from the 60s, other nice VW with cash on my side. I`m not a Westfalia guy but may think of it if worth. NO modern cars please. More pics or info by request. No dreamers. |
